This is my first post though I have been reading for over a year and actually registered some time ago, your knowlege has been greatly appreciated in the training I have done so far with my dog. I will finally come out of lurking and reading and ask for your help!
My mothers dog (golden) who is a close companion and a litter mate of my own 18 month old golden has become very ill over the last few days, she started lathatgic which tends to be in her nature, as a female of 76 pounds I concider her to be overweight but she only eats dog food (a reasonable amount -about three cups a day) and gets plenty of exersise, runs off leash about 6 miles. She has only peed once in two days and has not pooped, this morning she walk really sore and can hardly walk and when arrived at the vet her temp was 104, they ran tones of test and all they came up with was sodium low and potasium high but everything else was normal.
Blood counts fine, heart worm negitive and blood tests for cancer fine. They gave her some electolytes and sent her home with antibiotics. I saw her tonight and she never moved, breathing is shallow, refuses food and water and wouldn't even lick an ice cube.
Just wanted to pick your brains, anything we are blindly overlooking or any input is greatly appreciated.
The dog that she lives with 13 border collie seems fine as is my dog whom she plays with every day.
Update!
Today she is better, we have gotten her to drink chicken broth with some rice and after small walk she is drinking water, temp is down, she had peed twice but is still reallly quiet!
Hopfully she is on the mend and returns tuesday for retest of electrolyte level to recheck sodium and potasium.
I'm not sure if she was tested for lyme disease I'll ask my mom tommorow, though it is generally not a problem here as we are in northern ontario, canada.
