Like many people on this board, I travel a lot with my dogs. I define the term "anal retentive" when it comes to making sure my dog's hav identification on them. Besides tags, they are all tatooed and microchipped. I always joke that I wish I could shave my phone number on their back
One thing that I do (and thank goodness have never had to use!) is I have a "Reward" poster for each dog printed up. It has a clear *current* photo of the dog's face, and side profile. It also lists my name, the dog's name, physical characteristics, and age. I have sections blank (to be filled out with pertinant info when the dog is missing) for where lost, contact info, and collar being worn at the time.
This way, if my dog goes missing, I can give the poster to someone to take to Kinkos and make copies immediately so there is not a lapse in time for them getting out as well as allowing someone else to handle that chore while I look for my dogs. Just an idea I thought I would throw out there.
Yeah, unfortunately, in this situation some things just didn't go the way we would've liked, and have had to make do with what we have. My mom's boyfriend took the collar off of him, leaving him untraceable, then didn't tell us where he dumped him off until a day and a half later. It's been just over a week now, and I'm still holding out hope, it just gets harder and harder to believe that we'll find him as each day goes by.

Yup, I've done it all. Went to several farmhouses, talked to the Sheriff's Dept, Hwy Patrol, local animal controls, humane societies, have put ads in the paper, posted flyers in gas stations, restaurants, etc...etc..
This very detailed site has a list of steps to take in finding a lost dog.
I would not have thought of everything they have here........but they did. Please check it out.
Soooo, I take it you have lost a lot of dogs before?
Ha! Haven't lost one yet - although there are days that I would love to have one or two of them disappear I am an attorney by trade so anal retentiveness is an inborn trait
