I was at Alabama K9 yesterday when word came down that Mark Sloan was asking opinions of Alabama K9 on this board. However Mark, I question why you did this when you already left your dog there to be trained. I read your list of things you wanted your dog trained on. There were 23 items and you want it done in one month. Plus, you tried to negotiate a lower fee to have your dog trained. I got a kick out of this. You stated in your letter that your dog has been "staying in a 10' by 6' kennel in the basement and walked and played with regularly". You didn't let your dog be a dog. Over half of the things you want accomplished could've been done on your own had you just taken the time. However, your dog did look good all things considered. I personally saw Marlene's trainers work with the dog. Do you play cards?? I just figured that with all of the other things you want accomplished in a months time you might as well add "deal a deck of cards" to the list. I just say next time do your homework before committing to something as opposed to committing and then looking for public opinion in order to know what to expect. I don't know what you paid but in all honesty you are asking way too much and I just don't want you to advertise a bad opinion of Marlene and her trainers in cases all the things you want your dog to accomplish are not met. Training a dog takes time (lots of it). I will answer your question though. Marlene Wiggins and Karen Lemming are damn good people and after working with her new trainers yesterday (Pete Covich and Eric), I can tell you they are DAMN good trainers. And you can take that to the bank!!!
With all due respect, when someone goes on a public board and solicits good or bad experiences...those who may have a grudge with a particular owner/trainer will not hesitate to air those opinions out in public. He wanted an opinion, he got it. Do your own homework and form your own opinion.
What's wrong with someone seeking information about a trainer they've hired?
Also, beings that this person is not a trainer, otherwise they would have trained their own dog, it isn't uncommon for them to have a long list of goals and a not-so-realistic idea of how long it will take to achieve them. It would be the trainer's job to educate the customer on what he can provide with his services and agree on a price for them.
This thread is closed, if you want to post to the original thread that was started, go ahead. I'd drop the attitude if I were you, though.
