A guy at my SchH club brought his 1 year old shepherd to a practice today. The dog is about 90 pounds and has a nice build. Very lean dog. The problem is that the dog was dead lame on its left front foot. The guy claimed that the dog had pano and nobody questioned it. I did notice however that there was some swelling between the bottom of the foot and the pad on the leg. It was all puffed out. Is that common with pano? I have never (thankfully) had a dog with it, but have seen others that had it. None of them ever limped this bad. The dog was completely lame at a walk (even worse after rest), still gimpy at a trot and lope. It wasn't untill he let it run full speed to his truck that the lameness was barely noticable, and only because I was staring so hard. I was just wondering if that is pano and if its normal or if it could be something else. Thankfully our trainer wouldn't let them do any bitework, only tracking and he made the guy keep the dog at a walk the whole time. I gues im just curious and trying to learn all about this stuff before it happens to me or one of my dogs. lol.
