Hi I am new here. My name is Lindsay. I am worried about Minnie whose behavior can be weird sometimes. She is a dach mix and I got her from a co worker who found her in the desert. Her background history is mysterious. The only thing I know about her is that she had 4 pups who were pretty big than her! I saw her puppies and I decided that I want to take the mother in so she can be spayed. I don't like the idea of littering more unwanted puppies. She has a nice personality, likes to lick everyone she meets. I'm not joking, she is a big time licker and will not stop til her tongue gets tired.
I took Minnie to the vet, a numerous time to figure out what's wrong with her. On the first visit the vet suspected that she has UDI, an bladder infection. He examined her more than once. When he sees her, she's fine. I kept telling him that she shakes sometimes at home. He said that if a dog shakes, it means that the dog is in pain. He couldn't figure out what's the problem. After he told me that, now I'm worried about her.
Here's the strange behavior she displayed sometimes.
- Found her alone in a room, she doesn't look quite too happy. Doesn't show any interests to go in another room with me like my two other dogs do. I have three dogs and two of them like to follow me around. Minnie is quite different, she's more independent. Um.. Hard to explain in here.. She would lay alone and have her tail goes under. Sometimes I caught her shaking with her tail goes under, but after I petted and "pampered" her. She still shakes, but after she starts to run. She stops having the shaking thing. It's annoying me, hopefully anyone can give me some better hints. What's going on.
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"
If you could elaborate a little on shaking...do you mean she shivers like her whole body trembles or do you mean she shakes like she is trying to get water off of her?
Little dogs shivering (shaking) isn't odd behaviour. I have a Rat Terrier and she shakes when she is cold, excited, nervous...And she shakes like mad when we take her out to go squirrel hunting...I doubt that she's in pain.
Little dogs can actually learn to shake for attention. The more you baby them the more they do it. My girlfriend has a small dog that can do it on cue. She tells him to "do Shakey Jake" and he shivers like hes fearing for his life. As soon as she gives him the treat, he stops. If the dog checks out medically, then its probably something she picked up along the way. If you can live with it, then go ahead and hold her. If not, ignore her and leave her alone. When she doesn't get her attention, she'll quit.
