I have a 19 month old german shepherd who is in the middle of protection training and I've heard a couple of different positions on whether or not to get the undescended testicle out now, after training, or just prior to age 3. I don't want the operation to "damage" the dogs nerves or affect his drive so I'm a little hesitant about it at this point. I've even heard to take out the undescended on and leave the intact testicle as is. He is a high drive, hard dominant male at this point and I'd like him to stay that way. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Neutering after the dog is 24 months is not going to hurt his drive or effect his tempermanet. The three year time line is not accurate - the testicle should come out or it could become cancerous but everything I have ever heard (at least from credible people - not opinionate enthusiest) says that this should be done before 5 years of age.
