Hello, I'm new to the forum and have been going through past threads and found the one similar to the subject of this post. I have just purchased the Dogtra 200 NCP Gold e-collar and am thinking about getting the SCG grid pad which they advertise that you can put and leave it on your dog for much longer periods of time without hurting their necks. I noticed several of you folks said you were going to give the grid pad a try and I was wondering what you thought of it now that you've had a few months to give it a good workout. My Brittany (Opie,15 mos, male) is a great little dog and has responded wonderfully to his training (field, house and obedience),howeverhe has a way's to go and I'm finding that I'm having to repeat commands every once in awhile with no way to immediately enforce them since he can't wear the Tritronics sp60 all the time. Also, I'm aftrad he's getting collar wise since I never have to repeat a command while he has the collar on. After I read the posts addressing the grid pad I thought maybe that would be a possible solution to the problem. The Dogtra only weights 4.7 oz's compared to the 8.oz's of the Tritronics and the grid will fit perfectly on the smaller Dogtra.
Any thoughts or advice on the subject would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
Collars should never be worn 24/7. What you need to do is monitor your dogs neck when you take the collar off. Use MARKERS to put the collar on and take it off. Read my article on training with markers. Its in the list of training aritcle.
With this said - if yoiur training is correct and the dog repsonds when it has the collar on - why EVER leave the house with it off? I never take my dog for a walk without the collar on. I may only stem the dog once in 10 to 20 walks. What better way to train than to take the dog out with the collar and never have to use it.
