I know there's a lot already posted about vaccinosis, but I was wondering if anyone else has a dog out there with epilepsy caused by it. My dog had a severe reaction immediately following his vaccines at 2 years old. I had avoided them until then. I only got the boosters because I couldn't find a vet who would neuter him without him being current on shots (he was cryptorchid). Anyway, immediately upon returning home, he curled up in his bed and just shook. Wouldn't eat, and screamed when I tried to pick him up. He also had (and still has) a lump at the injection site. This was several years ago, and there was not nearly as much published info on this. The vet said it was a normal reaction, and that it was because of the size of the needle on a small dog (chihuahua). About a month later he had his first of many seizures. I mentioned it to the vet where I took him for the seizure, and was told that it couldn't be from the vaccine-he probably had distemper because I was a bad mother who didn't vaccinate him yearly. Well, maybe not word for word, but that was the general idea. Then I was told that he should be put on phenobarbitol, which he admitted causes liver dysfunction. I decided to continue being a bad mother, and I didn't put him on anything. Recently, another vet advised that I not put him on phenobarbitol because he's only 5, and being a chihuahua, could live a very long time. Phenobarbitol would help the seizures, but definitely ruin his liver, shortening his life by several years possibly. If he was 10 and suffering from seizures he'd feel differently. Anyway, sorry to go on so long, but I'm at a loss. I've been to several vets and a holistic vet who gave him a detox blend and thuja, which have helped some, but he had one yesterday and a really bad one today. I've been told that the main danger with this disease is that, primarily in tiny dogs, a long enough seizure (10-20 minutes) can raise the heartrate and body temperature enough to kill the dog. His sometimes come very close to 10 minutes, which seems like forever. I'd appreciate any input if someone has experience with treatment after the fact. I just wish he hadn't needed surgery-all this would have been avoided. Today, I probably could find someone to do it, but not back then. What I wouldn't do to have the chance to go back and do things differently!

I have not had first-hand experience with this, and I am not a health professional.
I research canine allergies/health/nutrition a lot, or at least as much as I can. As early as 2001 I was reading online that the conviction that epilepsy could be triggered or caused by vaccinating "had become mainstream." And there was heated controversy for years prior to that. So for a vet to state 3 years ago (when your 5-year-old was 2) that the seizures could not have been triggered by the vaccine reflects poorly on that vet, IMO.
I hope you can get some first-hand help. Meanwhile, I do have (saved, or bookmarked) more than a dozen vet (and vet college) web sites giving guidance on this challenge.
I also saved several sites that presented research on the connection between vaccinations and seizures (along with many other ailments).
If you want this material, then if you will just PM me and tell me whether you want URLs to both, or just to those giving treatment suggestions, I'll check my list for updating (so I won't be sending you outdated info) and then send you the links.
