ED sells a dvd on e-collar training but i have not seen it myself. there is probably a lot of good info in it you could use. as far as the age well you say the rott is 5 1/2mo old. i would start using it. would i be wrong? i don't know but i do know that he is big enough so that it shouldn't cause any discomfort. it always scares me when people go off and get e-collars though. they are a great training tool IF you know how to use them the right way. if you don't, i say learn the right way cause if you do it wrong you will unknowingly train your dog to do something you don't want it to do, your dog will become collar wise, or your dog will end up be scared to breath. if i were you i would buy the dvd and watch it before throwing the collar on the dog.
Thanks for the advice and your input. I have read and used Lou Castle’s techniques on my last Rott. But when I got her she was a year old. I also train her just as a pet. I am looking at training this Male rottweiler as a SAR or for Schutzhund.
I will order this DVD and also age some others from this site. Just was really asking so I would not hurt him in anyway by using this tool at his age. He is coming along a lot faster than any other dog I have worked with. I am in the process of looking for a trainer or club that knows or has worked with Rottweilers. From what I have read and seen Rotts can be really hard to keep focuses.
Thanks for your time and I will keep everyone informed on Kane’s progress
