I've just acquired a SchH3 malinois to learn handling on. We're prepping for a trial at the end of January. Anyone have experience taking on a titled dog? I've done AKC trials and will be doing a BH at the same trial. I've been reading the rules and memorizing the routines. What other stuff is good to work on so the trial goes somewhat smoothly? What are common newbie mistakes?
Yes I've been working with a club since June, and I've been working with the dog's previous handler/trainer in preparation for the trial. It will be home field and the dog has trial on the field several times before. I'm just a bit nervous about doing my first trial and trying to memorize the rules (particularly important ones concerning handler deductions). I was just looking for advice from people who've taken on titled dogs and trialed them.
