Product Description
Herm Sprenger Curogan prong collars imported from Germany.
Curogan is a copper-tin-alloy with a high copper portion and some additives which make the material strong - but without any nickel. Therefore these chains avoid a discoloration of fair haired dogs. Some dogs (less than 10%) do react on Curogan with a discoloration.
A further advantage of curogan is the fact that it is absolutely free of nickel. More often nickel is responsible for allergic reactions of sensitive dogs and causes of some skin rashes.
Herm Sprenger advises that the Curogan will NOT rust because it is a copper/tin alloy and does not contain any iron, and only iron can rust. Curogan will darken and tarnish when exposed to the outdoor environment.
The Herm Sprenger Company has been a leader in the dog training market with their high quality training products for many years. Herm Sprenger uses only the best materials and prides itself on their high standards. Leerburg is proud to carry a wide variety of Herm Sprenger collars.
Prong collars do not apply pressure to the dogs trachea, making them a safe alternative to a slip collar, and much safer than allowing your dog to pull into a flat collar which can cause permanent damage to the dogs wind pipe. Instead a prong collar tightens, creating a pinching sensation that is instantly released once the dog “yields to the leash” or stops pulling.
Leerburg strongly recommends using a backup collar any time you are using a prong collar is on your dog. For more information on back up collars and why we recommend them check out some of our free streaming videos on the proper use of a prong collar as well as the prong collar leash. We recommend Leerburg’s Dominant Dog Collar.
Prong collars should NOT be used with a retractable (flexi) lead.

Dog training is never without risk of injury. Do not attempt these techniques yourself without consulting a professional. Leerburg Enterprises, Inc. cannot be responsible for accidents or injuries to humans and/or animals.

Write a ReviewOur girl has always been very nervous out on a walk and quite dog reactive (not necessarily aggressive just a very explosive mix of nervs and excitement). We live in an area where unfortunately alot of people let their dogs off leash and don't control them, so in the past couple of years we've had many minor incidents and also a couple of bad ones where our girl has lunged defensively at the off leash dog suddenly coming at us, and as she is a very powerful dog twice this resulted in quite bad hand injuries when the leash has yanked through my hand (once tearing flesh and the other quite severe rope burn).
We had previously tried EVERYTHING to try to improve our walks; around 200 hours training, obedience courses and reactive dog groups, 1.5 years e-collar training (which was a brilliant tool in so many ways for obedience and off-leash training… but as soon as the leash went on, we just weren't able to achieve the same positive results). Our walks were just so incredibly stressful (for me and her both) we completely stopped for quite a few months, I just couldn’t deal with the difficultly level and constant fear of an incident or injury.
Then watching some Leerburg training videos over the Christmas break I thought it’s time to try a prong collar, but I honestly didn’t expect too much of a change in her behaviour as we had tried so many tools and training methods previously.
The collar arrived - I fitted it easily (along with our dominant dog collar as backup)... and then our lives completely changed!!
The instant we began our first walk in the new prong collar our girl walked calmly on a loose leash. I was beyond astounded!! We gradually worked up to walking up and down our street, then our neighbourhood.. and eventually our busy main street with other dog walkers – something I never thought would be possible! We never had to give any corrections, she just responded to gentle leash pressure and most amazingly she is now so relaxed and stress-free on walks (I’m not sure if this is due to my reduced stress now I feel more secure with her on leash)! Walks are such a daily pleasure now, something I had long given up on us being able to ever experience.
I was reluctant to use a prong collar for a long time, mostly because they just looked so full-on and I was afraid of a possibility of injury to our dog given her lunging behaviours. But our experience we have found it to be a very gentle tool that has enabled us to achieve gentle and calm behaviours and has dramatically improved the quality of our dog’s life now we are able to walk her regularly.
Apologies for such a long review, but hopefully this might help others who may be in the same boat we were –completely at wits ends, frustrated, sad and feeling hopeless.. We are incredibly grateful for this tool and for Leerburg for providing so many free training videos that helped us to find this solution.
I have now purchased two of these due to the closure getting lost. (The links have also disappeared!)<mysterious! I once was a bit desperate and had to drill four holes in a quarter to fashion an emergency closure. I seriously wish they sold additional closures. I am about to order a THIRD one due to this/theses issues.
I have to remove all collars when entering our local enclosed dog park. I have been witness to owners who do not do this with horrific results on two occasions of collars hooking and fear and injury occurring. My guess is this how the links and closures get dislodged and lost? Is when the leash and all collars are left hanging on the fence outside of the entrance to the dog park?!
The leash is finally coming apart. Even though its leather it has been through rivers, rain & snow storms! And of course my gal is requested often to carry it to me!
My original purchase was around 2.5 years ago! My gal turned 3 in November. I use this set up 3-4 daily and more on weekends. I take my gal to work with me and we walk throughout the day. I have an id on her safety collar and one on her, regular, brake away collar. I don't use one on the prong collar. I take the prong and safety collar off when she is not being supervised and when we aren't walking or using the leash. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Her safety collar has gotten caught before and I was so glad I happened to walk into the room when it was happening or she would have choked to death.
This setup is for working and walking only and not to be used as a stand alone setup. Don't be lazy! It could cost you your loved one.
