Product Description

These collars are imported from Germany and made with stainless steel.

The Herm Sprenger Company has been a leader in the dog training market with their high quality training products for many years. Herm Sprenger uses only the best materials and prides itself on their high standards. Leerburg is proud to carry a wide variety of Herm Sprenger collars.

Prong collars do not apply pressure to the dogs trachea, making them a safe alternative to a slip collar, and much safer than allowing your dog to pull into a flat collar which can cause permanent damage to the dogs wind pipe. Instead a prong collar tightens, creating a pinching sensation that is instantly released once the dog “yields to the leash” or stops pulling.

Leerburg strongly recommends using a backup collar any time you are using a prong collar is on your dog. For more information on back up collars and why we recommend them check out some of our free streaming videos on the proper use of a prong collar as well as the prong collar leash. We recommend Leerburg’s Dominant Dog Collar.

Prong collars should NOT be used with a retractable (flexi) lead.

For more information on how to size a prong collar, read our article here.

Dog training is never without risk of injury. Do not attempt these techniques yourself without consulting a professional. Leerburg Enterprises, Inc. cannot be responsible for accidents or injuries to humans and/or animals.

I understand that these are hard to get a hold of right now but the price hike seems a bit steep. I could probably get over myself and order a collar anyway but what are these sizes supposed to mean? Is small, medium and large the size of the links? Is it referring to the size of the dogs neck? Come on guys you know this isn't sufficient for people to order the right product based on that generic description. I suppose I'll check back at a later date.

ADMIN: There is a chart with size (both link size and dog neck size on every prong collar page) Costs for everything are going up and we are as upset about it as anyone. Because these collars come from Europe the shipping costs just to get them here is a big part of the increase. Feel free to call our office anytime for help with sizing if you decide to consider a collar.

I have a few issues with this product.
The first month that I used it it was wonderful. Had I reviewed it when I first received it I would have given it 5 stars. I am rating this based on the product as well as the response I received from leerburg.

The prongs are way too malleable. The collar is fitted properly and will literally snap off even on walks where there is no arousal in my dog for her to tug/pull. I carabiner her prong to her regular collar because it is just too unreliable.
I am all for extra safety precautions but I feel like it shouldn’t just be popping off the way it is and fellow trainers have agreed that this is not normal or typical for this brand/material.

I reached out to leerburg to see if maybe I received a defective collar and was told this just happens which I feel isn’t a great response to a product that normally has a fantastic reputation as well as for a brand that I’m told stands behind their products. With that response I have tried to “bend” the prongs like I was informed to in their email response to me and it didn’t help the issue.

I have been using a fellow trainers prong collar instead and have had not a single issue with her herm sprenger collar that I have had with my own. I am not sure if the issue is due to the fact mine is stainless steel and hers is the chrome plated but I would expect a higher price tag to have a better outcome and not the opposite?

I have also compared her large HS prong collar that is stainless steel to my small and overall the small stainless steel just seems to not be up to par.

TLDR: maybe avoid small stainless steel Herm sprengers.

I bought 2 of these collars many years ago. One of my
Dogs was always coughing from the pressure of her flat collar. She is not coughing anymore!
I can not say enough about the quality. If the collars
Ever wear out I will certainly order another.

It is too hard to put on and off - my fingers are not strong enough, I prefer the Leerburg collar by far. Sorry I bought this one.

This is a great prong collar. I had one with a spring clip that eventually broke. I don't know if anyone sells prong collars with clip fasteners anymore but they are not safe. Stainless steel is very strong and I am confident this collar will last forever.
