Q. At what age should a Schutzhund puppy be introduced to burlap?
Greetings,

Most of the puppy toys are not made out of burlap, I assume not to associate possible tooth pain with the texture of jute. At what age should a Schutzhund puppy be introduced to burlap?

Thank you much for all the great work you do!!!

A. I introduce puppies to a wide variety of textures (linen, jute, rubber, leather, etc) from an early age to prevent equipment bias. That doesn't mean I do a ton of play with all of those materials, I just make sure my puppy is comfortable with a lot of different materials and textures. Jute and firehose material can be hard for puppies to grip so I typically don't do a lot of play with those materials until teething is complete.

  Response:

It makes sense. Thank you so much, You are the very best!

This leather mini-tug is 10" Long x 7" Circumference with 1 handle. Training tugs are a very important part of working a dog in training. Many people think they are only used for puppy work. These people are wrong. The shorter tubes are a great training aid for drive building and are used throughout the life of the dog.

This is a handler training video, not a dog training video. It's a video that explains how we raise and socialize our puppies. If you are looking for a video on how to train a working puppy - this is not the video for you. There is a difference between how we raise a working puppy vs. how pet owners raise their dogs. Working puppies are expected to look at their world through different eyes than a family pet. This DVD on puppy training shows owners how to raise a working puppy.

Marker training (also called clicker training or operant conditioning) is one of the most profound systems of dog training that I have seen in my 50 years of owning, breeding and training working dogs. In its most basic form, it's a method of communication that is very clear for dogs to understand. Dogs learn the marker language quickly and when they do they thrive in training. The marker system produces dogs that love to train.
