Full Question:
Hi Cindy,First let me thank you in advance for your help in this. I just ordered two products from your kennel, the Joint Aid for dogs and the Grand Flex Glocosamine supplement for horses and dogs. I have an 8 year old working line Shepherd that is starting to have some trouble when walking (this is sporadic). I have taken him to the Vet but he can't give me a definite prognosis since my dogs limping problem is very sporadic. Can I help my dog by giving him some of these products (specifically the two that I just ordered)? If so, how should I give it to him? Which one would be more helpful the Joint Aid for dogs or the Grand Flex? Cindy, thank you for your help. I have been a long time reader and admirer of your Leerburg web page. My doggie Plato will thank you forever!
Juan
Cindy's Answer:
I would try the grand flex first. I'd also look into his food and make sure he's eating a quality grain free diet. I've found my dogs do best on the liquid glucosamine in conjunction with a few other supplements.
A raw diet it always my first recommendation. Here is a Q & A section on raw feeding.
If you can't or won't do a raw diet, then I would recommend a grain free kibble. Grain in any form can cause inflammation in the joints and can aggravate arthritis.
For my older arthritic dogs, I use the following regimen twice daily, every day. I have 3 senior citizens, one 10, one 11, and one almsot 14.
Soothe Joints, Comfort Aches, Syn-Flex (I give this in place of the Grand flex), Salmon oil, Vitamin E, MSM.
I hope this helps.
