My dog has isn't eating well. Instead of devouring his food, he sniffs, walks away, and looks at me. What might be the problem?
Full Question:
Cindy, We have been feeding raw now for more than two months and everything has been great. I feed my GSD twice per day. Lately, instead of devouring his food he sniffs, walks away, and looks at me. I waited 15 minutes and then picked up. After fasting he did eat the next meal.
When this happened again, I sat near the bowl and he seemed to begrudgingly eat and then finished everything. I think this is a behavioral issue (not diet) but wanted your input on it. I'd rather not have to keep fasting him to get get him to eat so I was hoping you might have some suggestions.
Thank you again.
Cindy's Answer:
If you have any doubt about what’s going on take him to the vet first.
If he checks out medically ok, consider that you may be overfeeding him. Some dogs only want to eat once a day, try cutting the portions down of each meal and see what happens or only go to once a day feeding. Don’t sit near him and make a big deal about him eating, or you may actually train him to be a picky eater.
I hope this helps.
