My GSD, Sasha died this morning while I was at an appointment. She was about 10 years old. She was dumped in the country to fend for herself in the middle of August. When I got her, I was going through a particularly rough time in my life. I was a victim in a criminal case and suffering from PTSD and severe depression. I couldn't sleep without having every light in the house on. She helped me a lot. She slept by my bed every night and I finally started getting out of the house again. I taught her basic obedience and we took a lot of long walks together. I feel like someone hit me with a truck and ripped my heart out.
She started limping the other day worse than normal after stumbling down a couple of steps. Nothing was broken and she seemed to be getting better. I was gone about 5 min. this morning and my mother called me to tell me she died. I loved her as much as anyone could love anyone and I am trying to take comfort in the fact that she knew it. Being able to write this helps.

Janelle, she knew. It seems God sends us these great friends when our faith in humans is gone. I have had two friends show up in my life and they have kept me going and strong through a lot of rough times. (1 personal attack)I know you are sad now but I do believe in the rainbow bridge and she'll be waiting for you someday. I am sorry. Leann

My heart is with you, my dear...........it's so hard. But as a terrific forum member said recently, "Don't be sad that she's gone. Be happy that you knew her." What a blessing you were for each other. Fortunate her and fortunate you to have experienced that amazing bond.

You won't *ever* forget; I know that. But the pain will slowly become joyful memories if you will let it.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am sorry for your loss. I know there isn't much anyone can say to make it right, but most of us know how you feel. Dogs truly are a woman’s best friend. They don’t sass you back, the don’t sulk when you put your “Don’t touch me PJ’s on”, they don’t care if your jeans are tight, and they don’t get chronic "I want itis". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
