I know this has gone over many times before but the latest episode is a little different. My 17 mth old unneutered SAR GSD has been urinating around my husband, some men(larger) and myself when he's in trouble. Well today he urinated directly on the newspaper lady.(just a little embarassing)He knows her well as she's given him cookies since he's been little. He's a dominant dog with lots of drive. Marking or submissive ? He's very socialized and well-balanced.
If he is in a crouched down position, ears back tail between legs I'd say definately submissive! Is this the type of behaviour he is showing prior to urination?
With the newspaper gal (adult) not submissive , leg lifted, tail lifted, ears not down but also not raised back hair,or tip-toeing. He greeted her friendly, excited did a little walk around the perimeter of the property came back and did his thing. Before it's ususally the submissive body language with the urination and almost always guys except for me. The line of work I'm training him for I'm afraid of any aggressive signs popping up.
Sounds like dominance in the case of the newspaper gal. When a friend's collie stud tried to do the same thing to me, I gave him a stern look and, in my best, low dominant voice told him to not even think about it. It worked, he thought better of it.
Does your papergirl have a pet who's scent your male may be picking up? Sometimes males, especially dominant ones, will try to put their scent over the other animal's scent even if it's on a person especially if they sense the person's one that they can dominate. Did you correct your dog in any way?
