I understand the reasoning behind line breeding, but I do not understand the actual figures and what they mean. For example.. Uran v Wildsteiger Land's pedigree reads
Line Breeding
Quanto von der Wienerau (4, 5 - 5)
Gitta vom Asterplatz - Liane v (5 - 5)
Gitta vom Asterplatz (5-5)
Liane von der Wienerau (5-5)
But when I look at his son Aranyvolgyi-Orseg Uran, I do not see any info on line breeding listed. I know he was registered under the Hungarian registry, so I assume that is why. Can someone explain the figures 5-5? And what it really means?

The (5-5) for example shows the line breeding, so in Uran's breeding he has on both the father's and mother's side on the 5 line an inbreeding on Liane. The (4,5-5) shows a line breeding with Quanto showing twice on the father's side and once on the mother's side. Hope that helps <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
5th line means 5th generation, so not so obvious by looking at a four generation pedigree. This is why you shoud research before you buy. Although a 5-5 will not have too much genetic influence, a particular dog several times (i.e. 3,5,5-4,4,5) may have a greater chance of contributing a trait you may find undesireable that may be recessively disguised in more recent generations.
