Hello - My name is Joe ( as you can see) and I'm new here. I found the site by searching yahoo with "pooped in the crate". My wife and I bought a female pug 2 months ago. She is now 16 weeks old. She's a beautiful dog and relatively well behaved. She's quite smart too. Her name is Wilma. the name came from our honeymoon in October when we got stuck in Jamaica due to Hurricane Wilma. She can be quite a hurricane too. In any event, my search found this site and now I've signed up!! I got a lot of good info from my search on the topic I typed in. Wilma pooped in her crate a few days ago. (during the day) she is crated whilemy wife and I are working. It was the first time since we've had her that she did this. She did it yesterday too. Her schedule goes like this... She usually gets up between 5:30 and 6:30. I take her out and she's does both immediately. I feed her. She will usually only pee one more time before I leave for work at 8:40. I think that's the problem.. She needs to do both before I leave. sooooo, this morning after she had been out to do both, I fed her and then about a half hour later we went for a nice brisk walk. I say brisk because we live in northern CT. It was cold this morning! We got home, took her out back and she pooped. Just as I hoped. My wife will be home at 4 so hopefully she has a clean crate. It seemed so all of a sudden because she sleeps through the night just fine and she was fine during the day for about 2 weeks straight!!In any event, I hope to learn a lot being here. Once I figure out how to post a pic, I'll put one up. I swear she should be in a magazine or something. Great looking dog!! Thanx!!
Joe, the rule of thumb is that for every month of age the pup is, you can add on an hour, and that's how long she can "hold" it. I.e., if she's 4 months old, she can technically hold it for 5 hours, so 7 hours in the crate may be too long for her. Coming home for lunch and letting her out should solve the problem.
