val-i think if i've learned ONE thing about kids (and it took me a while to realize that kids & dogs are kinda the same--duh...), it's that you cannot let kids/dogs suck you into the emotional reaction. i knew it about dogs, but i've finally realized it about kids too.
the main thing is, do not tell the kids that they're like a dog--it pisses them off
Dunno about the training exactly, but I do know it makes me miss my pits . Do they EVER stop wagging those tails ???
You know what I mean, Val.
Just looks like PPD training to me, same kinda stuff we do when we train, climbing brick walls, jumping on/over cars to bite, handler defense, stability exercises... where the dog bites is up to the handler's decision on what he's training his dog for. I think it was a PSA trial where the handler sent the dog for a leg bite n it was perfectly acceptable. It may not have been PSA though, don't quote me on that.
I saw one of his video's emphasizing the leg bites, and I also saw an opportunity for the decoy to snap the handlers neck with the dog having zero effectiveness in stopping it if it were a real situation. Hypothetically, if the dog would have targetted one of the arms it would have allowed the owner of the dog to get away by removing one arm from around the dogs owner. Just my 2 cents. I like his videos though
Very curious about the neck snapping thing. Have you ever had a dog bite you? Funny thing how you shut down for a few seconds, at least I do, and my pain tolerance is extremely high. Plus, it is a training situation, and the decoy gets close to elicit a response from the dog with the handlers back to the bad guy. I doubt in real life, that 1 in a bajillion time you might need your dog, that you would approach the whole thing the same.
Yes, I have. A mean German import GSD non show lines, and a chiahuahua (sp). Have you ever been stalked or have someone want to kill you? It opens your eyes to things most others don't see
