Hi all,
I am the new owner of a male GSD that my wife brought home.My kids and wife selected the dog. Our other dog died recently of old age.
I am completly new at this and did not know of any difference between a "registered" and "non-registered" dog. The breeder said the puppy was 8 weeks old. He weighs 6 lbs. I took him to a vet and got a clean bill of health. The breeder said the dog came from registered parents. I found out the parents were registered at Continental Kennel Club. In doing some research on size of the average dog I have found the dog is alot lighter than he is supposed to be. The average weight is about 3 times heavier.
Do you think I was tricked. I have a picture of our new dog but don't know where to post it. I know it is not of a pure bred line you are all accustomed to, but I would appreciate any guidance.
try "googling" continental kennel club. they arnt legit in my opinion any club that all you need is "2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog" is fishy to me. i dont think you can tell much about the weight of a 8 week old pup either. i have a shnauzer he was around 6 pounds at that age hes about 95lbs now,so its hard to say.
Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention the puppy was also the alpha of the litter. Am I going to have a handful?? He does not like to be put on his back and for me to look over him. I look at his eyes and make sure he turns away first.
I had a GSD that was registered with the world wide kennel club. I talked to the owner of my dogs grandfather for quite some time. She said she was disgusted with the AKC, and went to the WWKC. She had been breeding for 25-30 years and was just tired of the AKC, period. She said anything was better. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> So, enjoy your dog, and ignore the "papers" thats the way I would go.
Roger, I can't speak for your breeders, but often times, less than reputable breeders will choose registration bodies other than AKC because they have been banned for registering with AKC. Although AKC doesn't live up to everyones expectations, they do a lot of fines, restrictions, and banning of many breeders because of illegial/unethical practices. This is major reason for these different organizations.
Living in Missouri, I hate to admit, but we are at the top of the list for puppy mills. One of my own daughters went against my advice and has a Chi dog with some off the wall registration. She bought with her heart and not her head.
That's chihuahua! Her name is Tinkerbell. !!!SIGH!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Where did I go wrong? My other daughter has a pit.
If I thought I could pour water on it and it would grow hair, I'd skin that little sucker and stick it to my head. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
