morgan is a year and a half old female corgi.
i got her when she was 10 weeks old.
ever since i got her she has been an excessive drinker. she would drink until her belly was twice as big and then she would flood about an hour later.
i've learned to monitor her water.
my vet said she is a "psychotic water drinker"
she's geting worse.
now if one of the other dog's is drinking, she violently shakes.
i was looking at a vet website that mentioned psychogenic water drinking and psychogenic diabetes.
since morgan's been doing this for a year and a half and there are no other indications of any illness, could this be behavioral?
could she have an illness for that long without other symptoms?

Has a urinalysis been done? a UA would be where I would start.
"canine polydypsia" is a search term that should tell you a lot about some of the possible causes. Google came up with links to diabetes, cushing's, and kidney related sites. Polyuria is the term used for excessive urination.

You say that your dog appears to be fine other than the drinking problem, but....have you gotten a COMPLETE physical work up from your vet?If not that is where you should be starting. Perhaps behavior therapy of some sort could be utilized here if there is no underlying disease found. You might try to access some of the websites for veterinary colleges and see if you can get some advice there. Good luck!
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
we have had a vet check--urine, blood, physical exam.........
nothing showed up except that her mouth is redder than normal.
vet also said that if there is a problem, it might not show up on tests for several years......

I had imported a bitch from Holland that did this. When she got her she drank alot but otherwise seemed fine; I just thought she was adjusting to a hotter climate. But it never stopped. So I ran the tests, and nothing came up and she was doing everything else fine. About 8 months later she coughed and started to bring up thick fluid in small amounts like a white/yellow flem. It turned out to be a lung infection, and took about two months to clear it up. She is fine now and was after she started to get antibiotics.
