web page for dog dining out
URL was hosed.
this should fly, we'll see.
I can see advantages for dog owners, and liabilities for
establishment owners, and waivers for clientele, and in the end, too many lawyers.
But if we can get past that, it might be fun!

I don't think it is a good idea. There are too many owners that don't train their dogs, but would take them out to place like this. It could turn restaurants into dog parks, and we all know what a bad idea dogs parks are. I guess it wouldn't impact me a lot because I would not take my dogs because I would not have faith in how well other people could control their dogs.

I think that it is going to be a situation like those chain pet supply stores that allow dogs in. There is way too much potential for problems and I cannot imagine a resturant wanting to risk having to clean up dog feces during the dinner rush, not to mention the problems it would cause for the waiters and waitresses. I am not neccessarily opposed to it, but would probably not bring my dog or my family to a resturant that allows pets. I will try to keep an open mind and would love to see if this has been tried anywhere else and if it was successful

I know there's a place in Portland ,Or that allow dogs,
and even locally, for the summer outside tables, you see dogs
parked about.
My bet is if the owner is a dog nut, and can screen the dogs, there are will be places this occurs, regardless.

Dogs are found in many small French restaurants. I have also seen dogs in Italy. They are well behaved, and sit under the patron's table. I did once have a huge Schnauzer lay it's head in my lap, but in general, they leave the other patrons alone. America dogs are in general much less well controlled, so I think it would be difficult here. I certainly think dogs should be kept out of crowded restauants and fast food places. It is inevitable that some dog will bite a kid, as in Petsmart.
In my neighborhood, dogs are often seen at sidewalk cafe's, with a bowl of water. One of these is in the park, across from a dog run, and it is a popular place for dog owner's.

I have mixed opinions about this one. I just left my employment at one of those retail pet stores. My observations were most 'pet owners' are clueless and inept handlers and should not be out in public.
I think we all have be in a resturant, at least once, and witnessed ill mannered children. Then to add dogs to this? What's for desert....ADVIL?
On the other hand, I could see the use for this. Many people travel with their dogs and eating is always troublesome. We do a lot of one day trips, and I do bring my dog. I don't think I should be punished by the drive thru's because I have my dog with me. We look for resturants with outdoor patio areas or side walk tables. There usually are other people with their dogs also. But, these are usually older people who travel during the winter (AKA: snowbirds) and their dogs are well behaved. I have never seen any trouble and the people are very respectful of others and well aware of their dogs.
I do think that there is a somewhat of a need for dogs being allowed in resturants (limited areas and limited tables). But I don't see the need for the family to load up the mini van, including the family dog to go out to dinner!!

People want to spend time with their dogs because dogs are the kids of the new millennium.
I don't think it's such a big deal for people to have their dog at a restaurant if they're outside on a patio or something. As long as there is a reasonable separation between the dog-friendly and dog-free zones, people that don't want to be bothered can just eat inside.
I do think that people that take their dogs to these places should be held to a high standard though. If your dog can't mind his manners, then leave him at home and don't take it personally if you are asked to leave because your dog is not minding his manners.

I agree with Polly. I have a brother in london, so I go there & france every couple of years. I see a lot of dogs in pubs & they are relaxed, & it's no big deal, but here, the general public treats their dogs as if they are babies, not dogs, & we all know how "well behaved" some brats are in public.

I take my son and my GSD Erika dining once or twice a week. But I also order for three and leave a good tip. I don't mean to plug Petsmart but I used thier store to teach my GSDs shopping and dining behavior, oh and my kids also
