We had a person killed from a PBT not to long ago and the owner was convicted of manslaughter. Most people in this area didn't want BSL but owner accountability. Because of the latest incident among many others in this area, the people of Richmond patiences is at an end. They've been talking on the radio all day to get BSL against PBT introduced into the city and counties. Frankley I'm not sure what will work. If these particular people can't have pits they'll get some other breed ie American Bulldog or Rottie etc. and ruin those breeds as well.
The only thing I could see that would work is making it manditory that your dog can pass some sort of Canine good citizen test simular to the AKC GC or Bh before you can take it out in public or if found at large w/o that training the owner is fine and the dog removed

Please, nobody bite me, but would somehow passing laws that required muzzleing specfic breeds passify the hysterical people who are trying to pass breed specific bans? (I wouldn't want to see any breed required to be muzzled, but would much prefer it, instead of out & out breed banning)

Who decides which (mixed) dogs are which breeds?

I obviously have no clue, but perhaps that's why the Ohio appelate court ruled BSL unconstitutional? Maybe one of the legal eagles out there can specify? All I know, is I would muzzle my dog if required by law, but nobody would be taking my dog from me.

If the city acknowledges that certain breeds have aggresive tendencys by requiring them to be muzzled that just gives them more evidence to get the breed banned entirely.

This dog had no shots no tags and no training and the owner had no control.
The owner should be finded and have to pay the med bills for all the people bitten and loss the dog and not be able to have another one.
Stupid people like this make it bad for everyone and the the breed.

Absolutely! No breed bans necessary. Humans are responsible for their dogs' actions!

I own two pitbulls, and they are not for everyone. I do not believe in banning breeds (any breed). Pitbulls have alot of energy and MUST be excercised. Alot of people get this breed and then just chain them up. With a responsible owner a pitbull can make a great dog. Treated right, TRAINED RIGHT, that is the key word trained, they make good family dogs. Part of the pitbull problem is there are to many "backyard breeders" who are breeding, not to better the line but just to make a buck. They make good work dogs, agility dogs, and are highly trainable and very smart dogs. They have loyalty and heart, but irresponsible people are killing the breed. There is also to much inbreeding with pits, because some people think it gets a purier line, so they are breeding dogs with poor genetics.

There are alot of cities that are requiring people to muzzle a pitbull. There are some cities that require you to pay just to own a pit.It can be as high as $500 per dog.

In this attack the Presa x American Bulldog is being called a Pitbull despite knowing the exact cross...
http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060310/NEWS03/603100448/-1/NEWS
As the debate about pit-bull laws continues to gather heat in the community in the wake of an Ohio 6th District Court of Appeals decision last week, Nicole said she wanted to share her story.
There's no easy solution to this, but these attacks need to stop. BSL isn't the answer, owner responsibility is. On one hand I think they should just throw negligent owners in jail for 10 years, but then there are all different variables to some attacks that would make that too harsh a sentence to pass into law.
When those Presa's mauled the woman in California you heard from all the neighbors how they regretted not reporting the dogs, but the fact of the matter is, reporting the dogs wouldn't have done a thing. Animal control needs to enforce their laws a lot better. We have a rott. x apbt living across the street that attacks people when it gets out. 3 attacks later and over a dozen reports later, it was declared dangerous, ordered to wear a muzzle, and kept in a Dept. of Agriculture approved pen. Guess what? The owners don't follow the ruling. It's only a matter of time before the dog attacks again.
