Can someone link me to posts are a leerburg article or something where I can learn to teach my dog this? I searched and I searched but couldn't find it here, which I'm sure it is. (Used the words Stacking Stance, Stacking, Stance, and how to train the stance for Gsd's) I got nothing searching. So if any body is willing to explain it or show me where to find it, that would be great.
Since the stacking stance is used for showdogs, I just don't think that Ed would have bothered to address that, this being primarily a working dog forum ( but maybe someone else discussed it previously in the forum )
i cant readily link you to it but i read on here that to teach the dog to stand you can place one of your hands just in front of your dogs "little man" (if its a male) and that will make him stand... i taught mine that while giving him a shower... apparantly when dogs smell each others genitals they tend to stand still while being inspected by another dog... from there i guess its just a matter of holding a treat in front of its nose while you place his hind legs where you want them... i havent taught my dog to "stack" just to "stand"
Ok, i hate myself for asking this but what the he(( is the reasoning behind the whole stacking thing? i don't get it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />, it seems goofy to me,
Al, the show stack is a look pretty thing done for the conformation ring ( your homely weasel won't be headed any where near there, so Elvis doesn't need to learn that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> ).
Some AKC kennel clubs actually have classes to teach you to handle your dog for the conformation ring ( *shrug* to each their own ).
A proper stand is useful to learn however - it's used in AKC obedience and for the higher lvl SchH titles, plus it can be handy for examining your dog, etc.
Ok, well Abi's back is not all slanted, like the showring dogs, nor her fathers nor her mothers, I also think this is ugly looking. I know this must sound like some kind of excuse or something but hey, I like both working GSD's and the showlines that the breeder has. The breeder has a black Gsd named Apollo von der Schodin and two showlines named Xilo Vitaxis and Odett von der Malchower Aue. All dogs are pretty looking to me. So no I don't want to have Abi learn the Stacking stance for showring but I do want it trained for fun and for examination like Will said.
I understand where the working dog people are coming from because I am aware where I'm posting this.
Hey! we prefer coyote looking dog. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Maybe i'll bring him to an akc conformation show <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />, Ahh, on second thought, better not. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />,
