Hi all. I would appreciate a little help with any who have experience with the brand name electrical fence installers.
We have a 14 month old male GSD that we would like to have fenced with an invisible fence. We would always be present when the dog was out but want the fence so that he does not have to be on a leash where his movement is restricted by leash length. We live the city and a wood or chain link fence is not an option.
We are looking at brand names: Pet Safe Professional, Contain a Pet, Invisible Fence, and Pet Stop.
Two of the four emphasized the training of the dog over the others and those are the two we are really looking at. As I think the training of the boundries is the most important aspect of having the invisible fence.
My question is if any have heard of any of these companies, and if you have an invisible fence, what can you recommend for those that do not know who to go with. Do you have experience with any of the companies listed?
Mike,
I strongly suggest that you do a "search" and look what has been written about electric fences here in the forum - they sound like a good idea but it fact have a lot of weaknesses, some of which actually endanger your pet.

The only 2 I can recommend is Invisible Fence and Dog Guard. I have had a number of dogs on it and the key is the training and being consistent with it. It is E-collar training only with a perfectly timed correction. My Dog Guard fence I can adjust the width of the correction zone and the strength of the correction but success is in the training. If a high drive dog can`t be fence trained then that dog also wouldn`t be reliable off leash with an e-collar or off leash at all. Training

Thanks for the advice on the other invisible fences that you have recommended.
Will, I have already used the search funtion here to check on the invisible fence. Like all things, there were people that liked them and people that disliked them. What was encouraging was the emphasis on the training for the dog and boundries and not necessarily the electric shock to keep him in the yard.
If we cannot put up a wood/chain link fence, what would you recommend? I have read that dogs kept on leashes can get leash aggression. We also have a smaller yard that already has many flower arrangements all over so when he is on the leash, the flowers get trashed.

Generally Mike people don`t like them 1-because they want to use them for containment while they are away and also the fence won`t keep things out. or 2- they either had a cheap one or didn`t take the time to properly train.
I laugh when people talk of these incredible high drive dogs that they could never contain. Well then can that dog be trained for sport? Police work? How would that dog ever be reliable? There is on rare occasion a truly psycho dog that can`t be trained but a reputable company would refund there money.
