Prong for training, chokers/fursavers have their place in bitework, especially handy as a safety in case the agitation collar snaps, but I wouldn't use a choker for OB or walks or heeling type stuff.
Someone told me once "if you start a puppy on a choker he'll never need a prong". He was the biggest idiot I ever met.
Me personaly only have a prong, an E ( electric) and leather agitation collar. I have used choke chains on my Dobermans But not on my GSD. We live in the country so I don't leave any tags on my dogs as they are only outside if they are with me or are indoors.
LOL. That really sounds like a good idea!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. Hey if my dog can take why can't I, right <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />.
What does an agitation collar (and harness do) Agitate the dog to get more aggression out of them?
What does an agitation collar (and harness do) Agitate the dog to get more aggression out of them?
No they're just very strong thick leather collars (1.5 or 2" wide) and the harnesses are very comfortable and super strong so that when the decoy agitates the dog, the collar or harness doesn't break. Like if the decoy is doing civil work with the dog (no equipment) the last thing you want is the collar or leash or harness to break n the decoy to get bitten for real.
Some people also prefer to just use the fursaver on a dead ring (i.e. it doesn't choke) during bitework so the dog doesn't anticipate what's going to happen depending on what equipment he has on.
