Whats causing her to nawing at her butt? My femle Rottie has nawed down to the skin on her rear upper thigh. I've flea and ticked her, with shampoo and the 30 day immunizers. So what gives? I've checked her for fleas and tick again none present. I'm gonna dress her bare spot and dust them with powder.
But can anybody tell me whats going on, any suggestions of why or whats this could be?

Maybe her anal glands need to be expressed?

...is she getting enough exercise? Is she stressed or nervous about anything? Bored?

Todd, Good suggestion
I'll get her checked for mage, and apply a treatment for mage, she always rolling in anything that dead or stinking, Man that pisses me off. Its just tick and flea dip delutied and sponged on, it shouldn't hurt her.
Lisa, thats another one.
Sorta like chewing her nails, but its her butt? huh.
I haven't walk or worked them as much because of the extra work at the job and it been raining (good excuse right)?
Maybe she is bored, or stressed she is the one that pounds on the patio door when I get home, Like hey, I aint seen you since this mourning!
Sometimes they are worst then kids. I try this and see what gives.
Could it be a reaction from the Shampoo, plus whatever was in the lake? They went swimming in the Lake this past weekend.
Thanks

Don what you said about swiming made me remember something that happened a few years ago with my female. she had been swiming in the local bay and a few days later i noticed her chewing (itching) at the base of her tail on her back well i tryed everything to get it to stop nothing worked so i took her to the vet they called it a hot spot, my regular vet when he got back ended up retreating it but he told me that dogs can get swimers itch as well. i dont know weather you have that there but if your dog has sensitive skin it is a thought.

Don, could this be a food allergy? Try switching food. Maybe Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken. Check out solidgoldhealth.com and view the testimonials. Most of the popular brands of dog food available contain wheat, soy and other allergenic ingredients.
Whoever will only draw conclusions from the eminence of his own particular point of view, will obtain a distorted picture.-v. Stephanitz |

Tami odd as that sounds to me, it seems to have merits, this started happening Sunday - now. They went swinging Saturday, now she nawing a plug out of her butt. How did they treat that?
I'll treat for mage and this will stop her from bitting after I dress it. Then I'll get busy with them, back walking, OB and working out. The GSD swam in the same water, no affect on him. Just a personal note.
John
Food Allegry, I hope not I just brought a months supply of the brand my Vet recommend.

Don, the first vet (not my regular) treated it as a hot spot, she shaved the whole area and had me put some kind of ointment on it. that just made it worse so when my regular vet saw her it was to the point of infection (24hrs later) and he treated it with antibiotics. my regular vet was the one that told me it could be swimmers itch. this was 7years ago but you could ask a vet or try something like an anti itch (topical) like is used for rash or bug bites, im not sure what causes swimers itch i think its some kind of bacteria in the water, i remember my regular vet saying the wound needed to be dried out and kept clean, ived used topical anti itch stuff on her for other things, it seems to work just be carefull what you use. hope this helps
