I have been crate training my 9 week old GSD. She was doing well. We would take her out to pee after each meal, after each nap, and once during the night. We went for a good week without any accidents in the house.
Today took her for a walk for about 45 mins, then we stayed outside for another 45 mins and played. She peed and pooped right before heading back inside.
Well, I was making some breakfast and I had her out of the crate but close by. After about 10 mins, I looked over and caught her squating and she peed on the floor.
I grabbed her by the scruf of the neck, told her NO, and brought her outside. But once we were outside she was empty and didn't need to pee anymore.
1. Why would she pee in the house if she just peed and pooped 20 mins ago outside?
2. If she empties inside and I scold her, how can I praise her if she no longer has to pee? If I give her $hit for peeing in the house, I would like to be able to praise her after for finishing outside to teach her right from wrong.
If this is isolated (sounds like), then I'd just give her a little more frequent opportunity outside.
I'd have her either crated or tethered to me every minute that she's inside. That way you *can* catch her before she even lets go, swoop her outside, and praise when she goes. You're right that catching her while she's getting ready to go and getting her outdoors is the way to handle it.
She's not doing it deliberately. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> A week with no accidents is good! Good job!
