OK, so my little girl is now 9 mo going on ten in August 7th. and she has still yet to come into heat. I know some dogs take awhile and each dog is different but I have yet to have heard that it has taken this long for a dog to come to heat. The longest I heard was probably ten mo. and that was on this site.
My question is: Is this normal for a girl dog too take this long to come into heat or at least show signs???
I must admit that she is still immature mentally (very wild attitude, loves to play and run and disobey when she finds the chance) so I like to think that may be the problem.
How long is too long or is there such a thing? Could there be something meduical or am I just digging too deep here for no reason?
I don't think that their cycles are 'set in stone'. My female's first heat was at just over 11 1/2 months old. Her next heat was then 5 months later & then 7 months later then 5 1/2 months later. So as you can see there is no
'set' schedule....just an estimation of time, usually around 6 months after the first heat. That first heat can be anywhere within the 1st year or so. Again, not etched in stone. I would not worry about it unless maybe she gets to well over a year & still not heat. Also, it may be possible that she has come into heat & not shown much sign of it by keeping herself clean etc & you're not knowing it. My female didn't show much sign of it the first time around. She was only slightly swollen & bled very little...& kept herself very clean...If I had not been very attentive...I would have missed it. I now also have an intact male & although I am far more attentive (for the obvious reasons)he is always ready to 'let me know' when she is coming into heat by his constant attention to her. But I still have an eye on her when approaching the 4-5 month mark & assume that she can & will come in at any time around there. Just my experience.
Our girl was 12mths. old when she came in. I didn't know she was even in heat I took her to the vet because she was mopping around and didn't have an appetite. My vet said she was in HEAT! The next cycle was 9 months later and she was so clean I had a hard time knowing for sure.
Well, thank you everyone. I guess I should be happy that she ISN'T in heat... yet.
I can sure top that, my girl is now 16 months old and still no heat or signs of heat soon to come. This is my first female to go this long but my vet says its normal.
