We live in a really small town (1400 in whole county). On Friday two inmates escaped from our county jail. They had assaulted our sheriff and shot at him on Tuesday. Due to the nature of the crimes just about all of the population turned out to WATCH the search. There were so many people (civilians) milling around that the officers could hardly do their jobs! This crowd continued to grow until the NMSP brought in the K9s to search for the inmates. The split second the dogs got out of their units, the crowd dispersed into thin air! It was a good thing the dogs were brought in. They aided in the search and as an added benefit they cleared the area simply by being there! Ed, I'm only describing an event. I am not commenting on handling or training as I'm not qualified to so.
People came out to WATCH policemen try to apprehend violent criminals? I am speechless. Don't they realize they are going to get in the way and increase their risk of being taken hostage or getting shot?
Did they apprehend the men? How is the officer doing/?
The men were caught in a another town about 100 miles from our town. I am not sure about the sheriff's injuries. Its hard to believe but anytime something like this happens everybody in town turns out to watch.
