I hope that someone else has a male like mine. My 5 yr old male GSD that has never been bred self ejaculates. He also does this when he's sleeping. I just happened to look over at him and his penis is fully extended and he ejaculated all over himself and the carpet. He doesn't even have to be licking himself to do this either. (no laughing) To my knowledge there are no in season bitches around and I have not been near any. It really makes me angry when he does this. 1, why does he do this & 2, should I have him neutered? He will soon be my working Police dog so not really sure if I want to neuter him, but I just can't stand it when he does this. HELP!
Brandi
I wouldn't worry about it. It's been 5 yrs and he hasn't gotten any, so his body is relieving itself the only way it can. It sounds very natural to me.
Both your replies doesn't suprise me seeing that you are males yourself. No need for the "help yourself and get over it". I was just asking for help, not knowing if this is normal or not. Put yourself in a dogs position, not a humans. He has no idea he's "not getting any". He's a dog, Hello!
And let me rephrase, I don't get mad at him persay, I just wasn't sure if this is normal. More bothered than mad.
I should of directed this to women not you men.
Brandi
Hi all, Thank you for your replies. Deanna, good one on the animal planet and posters.
That was a concern of mine, about neutering him seeing that he is going to be my Police dog. He has had slight prostate problems. I take care of a kennel and when a bitch comes in season, his prostate swells. (I bring the smell home) He has had blood in his urine but it doesn't bother him and when the Vet checks it, surprisingly, he doesn't mind. I'd like to breed him once he's certified.
But if you all think this is normal being an intact male, I'll just live with it till I decide to neuter him. Thank You to the ones that replied with kindness, Brandi
This happens with my male also, except its just little drips here and there. No biggie I think.
Maybe I'm dumb or missed something. You are planning on using a 5 year old for police work. Isn't that a little old for him to start? How long can he possibly work for, 3 years?
Don't get mad, poor guy just needs some relief
