Thanks, it is great news. We tried an Ester C and Glucosamine intake while Dam carried pups then went on to give to mother until weaned, after that we gave with food everyday. So far out of the whole litter 3 have been checked and passed with a good rating. Still others to check but looking good. of course we used a good diet plan as well. Not sure if the Ester C is what helped but i've heard it works.

Congratulations on positive OFA preliminary.
Search http://www.offa.org
Preliminary evaluations 4 to 23 months of age, 90% accurate
when compared to repeat studies at 2 years of age.
Accuracy at 24 months of age is 95%.
1.There are no environmental factors which cause CHD
2.There is no evidence in scientific literature to support that mega dosages of vitamin C or any other supplement is beneficial in reducing the effects or preventing CHD.
3.High caloric intake resulting in rapid growth and increase weight gain may exacerbate changes in dysphasic hips but will not create CHD.
4.Exercise, running, jumping up and down, and slick floors will not cause CHD.
5.Prior injuries to the femurs and/or pelvis may be detected radiographically and are taken into account when evaluating CHD.

John - I am sorry but you are 100% wrong in what you have posted. THE ARE ENVIORNMENTAL FACTSORS TO BAD HIPS. Over feeding a pup and over exercise for a pup WILL CAUSE BAD HIPS!!
I dont know where you got this infortmation - it may have been from the OFA - the fact is they are putting out bad information if this is their attitude.
I dont have a lot of respect for the OFA - they are an arrogant poorly run program that way way way too often give bad readings on hips. When they are then called on these mistakes they are arrogant in their answers. Because of the errors I personally will no longer use the OFA. We will xray our dogs and put the xrays on the internet so people can see them.

Ed you are so right about OFA. I sent in two sets of xrays from two differnt vets, both said my dog should get a good rating and I didnt even get a fair. I had these two dogs xrays compared by a third vet and he could'nt see a difference, so i've sent one more xray in to OFA before I try for an a stamp....

I'll never do OFA again. I will send them to Germany. OFA is just all over the place in their evaluations. Nope it's A stamp for me from now on....

You are so right Karmen, the thing that gets me most is i trusted other people and how they felt about OFA. being green in the dog world at the time that I had a nice male put down due to OFA he didnt pass and everyone told me to put him down. i kelp his xrays and had someone look at them once and was told he should have passed. he was a once in a life time dog. drives were out of this world. i was told he would face a life of pain and listened to others..never again...that was many years ago though and i've gotten smarter, i hope....i wasnt told about a stamps until a few months ago.....

Just out of interest how would you go about sending them to Germany? Where would you send them? How much would it cost and can you list the benefits besides the obvious "I don't like OFA" etc.
Cheers
John
