Anyone have a good way of getting rid of bad breath. My 5 month old GSD has it terrible. I feed him royal canin kibble with 3 pumps of salmon oil and 2 viatamin E tablets, also 4-5 eggs with the shell per week. Thanks
Hi Dewey. The best thing is to lose the kibble and go completely raw. Ed has some excellent articles and books on the main website to help you get started. Also, some type of recreational bone (soup bone, etc.) might help. Chewing the bones helps clean teeth and can reduce bad breath (kibble tends to cake on teeth). Good luck. Bad breath can be a real problem. My last dog (before I discovered raw) had breath that would blister paint. Yogi eats raw and doesn't have any doggy smells.

As Walt said, the best thing for bad breath is a raw diet. My dogs breath would stop a freight train til I switched to raw. Matter of fact their whole body smells better! Try it for two weeks, you'll be amazed.
4 to 5 egg shells sounds like it could be throwing off the calcium/phos. ratio in the diet. This probably doesn't have to do with the bad breath, but 2/3rds of an eggshell is usually used to balance one lb of meat. Kibble is already balanced (and mostly grain) so that sounds like extra calcium to me (can't remember how much phos. is in an egg).
Even if you don't make the full switch to raw, a few raw bones to chew on will help clean the teeth.

If you are completely against raw then you could try an enzymatic pet toothpaste, but good luck using it. Either the dog hates it, or they love the flavor and try to eat it before you can brush with it in my experience. It's worth a try, but you will have to teach the dog to accept it either way.

Bad breath can be from tooth, gum, throat, sinus, stomach, etc, problems. Have the dog checked by a vet. Then change to raw!
Just feed'em Tic Tacs like I do....fresh, minty breath is sure to follow!
Just kidding of course, for a 5 month old puppy with bad breath, I'd check dentation first - the dog may have an impacted puppy tooth that failed to drop resulting in gum disease.
I'd get to a vet - I feed raw, kibble and cooked and the only one of mine that has bad breath is a 14+ year old stray with a couple green teeth - this is NOT normal and I would get to a vet ASAP.
