I have a 9 month GSD and he is on a all natural diet as I have been feeding him "fargo" and he does really well on it, BUT.... here lately he is starting to smell like fish. I check him out really well when I am with him and I can only find a slight odor of fish on him but I cannot pin point where it is coming from. When he is in his kennel for the night he really starts to smell and them again somedays he doesnt.
I have been letting my GSD give ME and him a bath once a week and it last for about 2 days and it back to the smell
How long have you been feeding BARF (or Farmore)?
You can sometimes get a smell from your dog when they are detoxing. (cleaning the body out) from the diet they were previously on.
What type of Farmore are you feeding? (beef, lamb, turkey, chicken etc)? Depending on the chickens, they can be fed a feed that contains fish....so *perhaps* it could be coming from that..
I don't have any kind of smell (doggy or other) from my dogs (been on BARF for 9 yrs). You will often have it with dogs on kibble though. However, I make my own food and do not use any grains. Just veggies and meat. (and they get supplemented salmon oil)!
Perhaps there is something else going on with your dog internally? I would not panic at this point. May want to try a different food to see if this makes a difference.
I would also be careful about bathing your dog so often. This takes the natural oils OUT of the skin and you be creating more a problem.
