I recently lost a great and wonderful friend. My 14 year old Lab Mokie passed away and has left a huge hole in my life. I was lucky to have been able to share 13 1/2 years with her.
She taught me a lot about life. She was always there when I needed a friend (usually slobbering on my face to make me smile). She is the first dog I ever took through OB school... and we only passed because we showed up every day. On the final test of the down stay she stayed approx. 3 seconds before she was off exploring the room. That was Mokie. Everything she did was an adventure and eveyday brought something new. She never let a day go by that she didn't get into trouble in some way or another.
Mokie was a Dog Pound Rescue. She was due to die when I found her. She was only 5 1/2 months old... too young to die like that. So she came to live with me and enriched my life for so many years.
She was 14 years old when she passed. Full of life and love. She went out on her terms and did not ask me to make that decision for her. She always did things her way, no matter what I had to say about it!
I know that I will see her again someday. I am sure that she is pilfering garbage cans on the other side of the Bridge...and will most likely meet me with a stinky shoe when I see her again.
So, I say Good Bye to my old friend. It was great knowing her and sharing my life with her.
Thank you Mokie, for all that you have given me. Thank you for all the smiles that I needed (and the hundreds of gallons of slobber!) Thank you for choosing to live with me and teaching me all that you knew. Thank you for being my right hand and keeping the Pup in line... you taught her well too. We will all miss you. See you on the other side Ole Lady. You were the best.
I am sorry for your loss. Dogs add so much to our lives and ask so little in return. I know you loved her and I am sure she knew it. I am sure she loved you and was glad to be with you for these past 13 1/2 years. You did a wonderful thing saving her all those years ago and I am sure you will see her again one day on the Rainbow Bridge.
For those who dont know Kelly is one of the 4 or 5 ladies who may answer the phone or take your order here at Lerrburg. It was a sad day - week - when Mokie died. Its hard on Kelly - these darn dogs just dont liev long enough.
14 years tells me you did something right.
I've been there so many times in my life. I feel sorry for the person that hasn't had the privledge of the company of a dog.
I'm sorry for your loss, Kelly. You can tell she had a sweet spirit by the look in her eyes. Ed is right, they don't live long enough...our sweethearts, our friends. I miss all the dogs I've ever had, still.
