My wife and I just got a little lab mix. We have started crate training her and she is getting used to it. She has had no accidents in the house. She had a problem with fleas when we got her, we sort of rescued her from a bad situation. Well, we live out in the country where fleas are an issue. What would you recommend as far as flea protection?
We put a basic flea color on her right now and have been giving her flea baths, but we want something that lasts longer. What do you think? K9 Advantix, Advantage, others.
Take off the flea collar and dispose of it according to the package instructions! These collars are toxic - especially when damp or wet!
I use Frontline - it works like a charm. You won't need to flea bomb your house or use chemical dips with this product. It is MUCH safer than the collar or the drops you find at WalMart etc. - a dog can eat the entire month's dose of Frontline without effect (according to the vet).

I couldn't be more ditto-y! Those collars have a very bad track record, both with toxicity and ineffectiveness.
I'm with Anne. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Here in Texas where fleas are year round my wife and I use Frontline Plus. Yes you still get a flea or two but teh ones that do bite your dog will not be able to have babies them selves preneting your home from being infested. It is a bit pricy but worth the money, my dog has to wear it year round we get no breaks here in the southern part of Texas from fleas and the rest of the biting things.
