One of my pups testicles is significantly larger than the other....Is this normal? Or should I be concerned? When he was younger one of his testicles did not descend until he was approx. 6 months old, at which point the vet said that it did infact drop. He still does not lift up his leg to urinate. Is this part of the problem?
As long as both testicles have dropped fully I wouldn't worry about it. He'll probably start lifting his leg soon. One of my collies started to do so at 6 months but another was almost a year old. I wonder if that could partly be due to the fact that the first one was around an older (4 yr old)male Dobie quite alot?
If my male dog ever asked me if I preferred he lift his leg or not, I'd say "not. Please spare my bushes, flowers and trees".
Even human males often have different sized testicles, it's probably nothing to worry about, but if you're that concerned, ask the vet.
As for lifting leg... my male is more than 2 years old n he doesn't lift his leg to pee... well, he does when he decides he has to pee on EVERYTHING we walk by, but when he's just relieving himself he stretches out his back legs. When he was a pup he peed on his front right paw... he was 10 months old before he first lift his leg and it wasn't a common occurance. Now he pees so much that when I walk with my female I have to tell myself "Oh yeah, she doesn't stop to pee on EVERYTHING, she's a girl, how cool!".
My male is 18 months old and did not start lifting his leg until he was somewhere between 12 and 14 months old. Even now he doesn't do it all the time. On walks, he lifts his leg about 95% of the time and at home he'll lift his leg about 50% of the time.
I'm w/Mike. Unless it's really drastic, I wouldn't worry about it. I would think it would be odd for either human or canine testicles to be exactly the same size; most body parts that there are two or more of are not the same size, if you think about it. Not that I've done extensive studies on any species' testicles but, my dog's (which are impossible to miss aren't the same size. That's how they've always been. I don't think this has anything to do w/not lifting the leg. Mine didn't do it all the time until he was almost 2, and still will not do it if he has to go really, really badly. Much more useful for marking what's his, which is everything .
