I'm watching the new episode of Dog Whisperer season 3 and there is a case with a cattle dog on a farm that chases tractor tires. He's been run over a few times and even lost an eye, but he still keeps up with this obsession.
To my surprise, Cesar actually sugested an e-collar for this dog! He did a pretty good job at explaining the collar, how it works and how it fits; at least as good a job as he could in a 3 minute segment.
I was glad to see this becasue there was a show in the first season where he used an ecollar on a cat aggressive dog but never explained it or even admitted to using it on the episode.
I'm sure this will piss off all the positive only, put your dog to sleep if it doesn't respond to treats crowd, but I was glad to see Cesar demostrate an effective and appropriate use of the dreaded e-collar.
You need to sit back in your garden, sip a whiskey, smoke a cigar and THINK about your dog training. |

Yes, the producer deleted his explanation of that e-collar before, which was the owner's and which the owner preferred that he use, and he promised after the show that there would be an episode soon with an explanation and demo of the e-collar.
That ACD tonight responded quickly.

I did enjoy that segment and I'm sure the "pet parent" boards are screaming in horror over it. I loved that cattle dog though, talk about one tough cookie. I wonder if they spread the genes of that dog.

The unfortunate side of advertising the e-collar is that a lot of people will think that an e-collar can fix everything and do not understand the training that goes along with using an E-collar.It is good that ceasar went into how and why an e-collar is used.I am all for the e-collar on issues that cannot be resolved through the leash.I am also glad that it is a bit pricy(did I spell that right) cause if it was cheap you know for sure it will end up in the wrong hands.Anyway, I will look forward to catch that episode.

Trevor,
Can you post the name of that episode? I Tivo them, keep the most recent 5 first runs, and didn't see it. This is timely for me, because the e-collar I ordered from Leerburg arrived today. I also ordered a dummy collar, which I am going to start rotating with his other collars for the next two weeks while I watch the Leerburg remote collar training DVD again.

It was a first run on NGC last night. If you have it set up on a season pass it should be there today. TIVO has to be the best tv related invention of all time.

I saw the episode too...don't know why folks react so badly to a training tool???? My husband has fun with it though, my Staff is small and fawn so you can see the collar very easily...he purposely puts the red blinking light up when we take her out ..... the other day a woman says to us "Is that one of those shockers...how can you do that to your dog", my Husband replies in his southern accent..."It's fun, she's armed and I'm dangerous"....I had to laugh
The Dog Wisp was good...that little dog was CRAZY..LOL

Be careful, Valerie... or tell your husband to..... in these troubled times someone might just assume your dog & handler are a 'suicide team'

Thanks. My season pass will pick it up that episode on the 10th.
I agree, Tivo is great. My wife and I don't know how we ever watched TV without it. Tivo is the first piece of technology I ever brought into our home that my wife picked up and learned immediately, on her own, without any help. I'm almost embarrased to tell you I have four Tivos all networked together in my home
