Does anyone know of reputable organizations, ideally near the Chicago metro area, who are willing to consider rescue dogs/pups as prospects for "real" jobs?
I ask this because a 6 month old rescue came to our training at http://www.JolietSchutzhund.com on Saturday. He is currently in foster care, and the "foster parent" recognized that he would probably be better suited for a "job" (work or sport) than as a family pet - high drive. Of course this was only one evaluation by Dave Blank, but Dave agreed that this pup shows promise for a "job" rather than a strictly pet home (not enough outlet for the energy and drive). On first glance, Dave thought he might be a good prospect for drug or bomb detection work. Of cours the pup is neutered (IL law for rescues) and has no papers as he was "found abandoned."
The Chicago Metro area is HUGE and I'm sure there must be organizations seeking prospects like this one. If anyone knows of organizations I should hook the rescue people up with, please let me know.
**DISCLAIMER** I am not trying to sell a dog so I hope I'm not violating any board policies. (and if I am, please do an admin delete). I'm really just trying to give one practical example, and get input where to go if a "on first evaluation" nice rescue prospect turns up - in Dave's experienced opinion, not my own inexperienced one.
