I guess my question is how did he "accidentally" shoot both of them?
That was my first question too, but I suppose that hunters take more than one shot at a deer. If it was through the bushes, or in low light conditions, I suppose it could happen. It's really, really sad.
I live in an area where there is much hunting close to the population, and I'm never sure where hunting is allowed and where it isn't. This reminded me how important it is for me and my dog to wear a orange vest during hunting season.

Mike-
(no need for Mr. here!)
All I have is that link to a somewhat incomplete report...
I love hiking my dogs thru the woods in nearby state land,
but forego that pleasure the last half of November. Even in the posted "safety zones" too close to housing to be safe, I simply avoid it.
After seeing this, thought it best to mention it.
Because just this one incident is too many!

I just wish idiots would not be allowed to use guns. #1 Rule every real hunter/shooter knows is identify your target!
The 'hunter' was about 60 yards away when he shot Pittman from a tree-stand. He went to investigate, he 'mistook' the dog for deer getting up and then shot the dog.
