Hello all. I recently posted asking for help determining conformation on a working line male GSD pup, but I only had front view pics. I now have some side view shots as well (although there was a sudden rain shower, so the pups are a little damp!)
These guys will all be 6 weeks old this Sat.
Please lend me your considerable collective experience!
Please note: This is only in reference to conformation and structure...the temperaments are all fantastic (the one that was a little too shy isn't shown).
I need to make my pick soon, hopefully by Wed afternoon.
I asked Eds opinion and he did say that it's necessary for an experienced person to see the pup hands-on (as opposed to pictures) to be able to really analyze the structure. So with that understanding...I'm just wondering if anything glaring (ie. obviously right or wrong) stands out about any of the pups.
Amber,
Is this breeder asking you to pick by these pictures? And pics only?
No, definately not. But pictures are all that I can really show you!
Since I'm not an expert by any means on puppy's structure...I thought I'd ask you guys and get a second (and third and fourth and fifth..) opinion. Different breeders have different opinions and I'm always interested in what the group consensus is.
Ok i'll pick.
D for me, and I think he was pupy # 1 on the other photos.
I like the head better and all around balance. If you look at my dogs I know "nice head". http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/cadogancna/
If I had to pick from photos alone, my personal preference would be D. I like his head, front and balance. Mind you I am a Mali lover but like good looks and balance in any breed! Will add that the opinion of the breeder would be of utmost importance to me, as temperament and that certain "twinkle" can make a difference. Maybe the breeder can narrow it down to two for you and explain why he/she choose them and you can take it from there, depends on your plans for the dog. It's always a hard decision not to mention a crapshoot. After all who has all the answers!
Thanks to all of you for your responses. I was happy to see that there wasn't anything wrong about any of the pups that really stood out (from so little to go on, anyway! )
I ultimately decided to go with the C pup. I just thought that his temperament and energy level (for as much as you can tell at that age, anyway) were best suited to me and my family. I know many people liked D, and he was a great pup...but from what saw of his temperament, he was just a bit more skittish (not terrible...but C wasn't at all) and I thought C was a better choice.
All along I was sort of favoring C, but I wanted to present him in a non-biased way to see if anyone would notice anything wrong about him. If anyone noticed anything really wrong with his structure, I would have had to reevaluate and ask some more questions.
Thanks again for everyone who chimed in! I'll be picking the pup up on the 9th of December and I'll share some more info and pics then.
