Though, depending on what you want, this Xmas might be a little late. I decided to do a little something different for presents for my immediate family this year. I've befriended a woman who's just now getting serious about making art and illustration her full-time job.
I seem to have caught her at the right time between desperation for work, and really coming into her craft. I've bought three of her works for, I'd estimate (based on what little I've gathered), about a third of the cost of what you'd pay to a more established artist, or original works you'd find in art galleries.
In my case, I had her do a rendering of my (wife's) cat, a goldfish for my sister, and some birds for my mother. I couldn't be happier with all three.
Love the lobster and the "stork." You might wanna run it by her that that's a grebe, not a stork. Podiceps cristatus if the photos and descriptions I'm looking at are accurate. Yeah you can say it, I can be anal about these things.
Good luck to her! Looks like she'll go far. How about some paintings on some working dogs?
Hehe. She knows that, actually. That's just how I categorized them. The finches are actually goldcrests too, but I re-named them to keep them straight in my own mind.

Does she work from a photo?
What does she charge?
How long does say a drawing take?
I only wonder aloud as I too render photos.
Have done a few dogs too. my wolf, dog and cat sketches
Only been at it about a year, actually mostly last winter's long
dark nights. With the shorter days, it occupies the evenings nicely. Most done in a single evening.
I have no idea what I would charge if I ever decided to try doing it as 'work', which I'm afraid would take some of the fun out of it.
To me it's a way to relax. Half the dogs are waiting at the bridge, so both passed and present there, the others all still here.
