In a day when humans in this field are rarely given due respect, I found the honor bestowed upon this officer rather touching.
(I'm new and still trying to find my way around this vast site so forgive me if I chose the wrong category to place this under or anyother mistake! Many thanks :blush
I agree with your statement. K9's should be honored and mentioned when lost. As much as I listen to the news, I have never heard of any K9's deaths, and I know there have been some in my area. This is probably the media's shortsightedness, not necessarily the PD's. But I don't know. It's tragic. Good to see a Police Dept take their K9's seriously.
Sandy, maybe you could contact TV stations or newspapers in Phoenix and let them you would like that coverage. Fire off a letter or e-mail to an editor or a call an ombudsman and see if you don't get the same response from others.
Here in Salt Lake they cover those sad stories when they happen, even in the surrounding states. Last year, I think it was from Idaho, there was a story about a police K9 shot while in the performance of its duties. There were news photos and TV clips as the dog was laid to rest with full honors. Made me cry. There have been others, though I don't remember specifics.
Good suggestions, Ruth, will do. I'll start with the TV stations and try to find out why there's no coverage on fallen or wounded K9 officers. Depending on what (if any) answers they give me, I'll work up the ladder.
They do announce it here when a k9 gets killed in the line of duty or injured during duty too.But you will notice that as soon as one k9 dog does something wrong you will hear about it nation wide
