Ray, in a recent post you said "im new to this but i honestly have a sincere desire to give it a shot i would love to someday be involved in working dogs".
I don't think getting a dog with a Sch 3 would be a good place to start. Anyone have any suggestions for Ray that know more about this?

What are you interested in a titled dog for? Breeding? Protection?
If you're interested in doing Shutzhund, why don't you find a less titled dog from good lines and title her/him yourself. I'm sure it's more rewarding to do it yourself than to buy the dog that way. Also, you're losing all of that bonding experience with your dog, IMO.

Truthfully, Kristine, it doesn't even guarantee the dog will do SchH3 work....

Yah, so buy for the dog, not for the title.

The easiest way iknow to reply is as follows.
You live in your house correct,But im shure
it would have been more rewarding if you had
built it yourself,or to be a great race-car driver
does that mean you have to build the car from the ground up?
I live in a great house, and have won several races in my
racecar yet i didnt accomplish either alone

I guess my last post must have hit to close to home
I didnt mean it to be rude I just dont think that someone asking for advice/help should be told as Kristine said \Yah, so buy for the dog, not for the title/.Just because someone has different goals or maby even go about things
differently, does not mean they deserve off collar or such
inapproiate remarks. As I stated in my former post I am neither a
carpenter nor a car mechanic, but at the same time I live in a house most can only dream of,and not only won several races but
a few championships as well, so if anyone has some helpful responses please feel free to let me know, as I do have a geniune
desire for a GSD and all the joys they have to offer

I think what most are meaning is that just looking for SchH III dogs, you can get dogs that have that title, and cost big big bucks, but sometimes those titles aren't really proof of what the dog can do, some get those titles quickly under hurried training and suspect trialing, but they do have them, and they sell them to unsuspecting buyers.
Taking your time, maybe buying a younger dog that has been evaluated and has the tools to be Sch III and a protector will probably be the best way to get the dog you want. It probably means you'll have to do some work with it once you get it, but that work is very rewarding, your genuine interest in GSD's will increase 1000 fold, trust me. I'm ok leaving my wife for a week (don't tell her), but if something takes me away from my dogs for a night I can't sleep. That's just the bond we create with training and having fun.
I think the previous posters did have some good advice, buying a dog, based on what the dog can do thru an evaluation, is going to get you what you want, looking for just a sch III dog, probably will not. Plus it will save you some money on the dog, and you'll have the opportunity to really work and appreciate what those dogs are capable of, and what type of work it takes to get them there. Something tells me they've had experiences when they started looking for a top titled dog and got a dog with titles, but not a dog with what they were looking for. Thankfully i've only been involved in very upstanding people in this sport, they're just trying to make sure you're aware of the pitfalls.
Even if a breeder doesn't have any dogs, they can probably put you in touch with someone close to you, that still may not have a dog for you, but can talk with you personally and find out what exactly you want or more importantly what you need, and help you find that dog. I'd trust that over a random contact on a message board.
