Hello. I'm considering the Dogtra 1700, it will be my first electric collar and I will be using it (on Ed's advise) on my 6 yr old female rescue GSD.
In doing research, I've noticed that some 1700 (single dog) models have one yellow and one black button on the front of the handheld portion and some have 2 black buttons. Does anyone know what the difference is, if any. On the Leerburg sight, the 1700 sold shows 2 black buttons. I'm wondering if this is just simply a differenct in what year it was manufactured. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Dogtra 1700 I purchased from Leerburg at the end of October. When I look at http://leerburg.com/1700.htm the buttons look gray to me, and that is the color they are on my unit. The top button is "nick", the bottom is "continuous". On the right side there is a blue power/display button, and on the right side is a gray "pager" button. The picture on the Dogtra website, http://www.dogtra.com/ also has two gray buttons.
If you look closely, the models with the yellow button have the nick and continuous labels at the top of the front of the remote, and the models with the grey buttons have the labels next to the buttons.
I'm guessing it's a cosmetic change from one manufacturing period to the next, but you could ask Dogtra. There is an EMAIL link on their home page.
Thanks for the info, Rich. Are you happy with your 1700? Is it your first experience with an electric collar or have you had others? We are completely new to this and having a hard time deciding.
This is my first remote collar. I am happy with it, but then, what's not to be happy? The continuous, nick, and pager buttons all work. As best I can tell from trying it on myself the settings (1 to 127) are repeatable, though I haven't gone above 45 on myself or anyone else. I've only had it since November, so I can't comment on long term durability or battery life. I haven't tested its actual range yet. It's claimed range is 1/2 mile. I'll be happy with 1/8 to 1/4 mile.
