Hello my name is Barbara and I live in the West Midlands of England. I am very pleased to join this forum and have read with interest some of your topics and replies.
I have two German Shepherds both are rescues and are wonderful of course. My eldest one is 6 years named Sophie but she is starting to have trouble with her eyes somthing called pannus so the vet told me. I have to put pred forte drops into her eyes
does anyone else have this problem with thier dog? Is or could it be inherited?
The weather here is windy and raining but Sophie, Max and I still manage 3 hours walking per day plus training and play. Unfortunatly it gets dark here at 4pm do you have the same problem with daylight saving time.
Welcome! I have the daylight problem too By the time I get home from work, at this time of year, the sun is pretty well gone! After I change out of my work clothes and I'm ready for our walk it is long since dark. A couple of those novelty party glow sticks are great for it though. I just crack em, put them together, and voila a glow in the dark collar!
Hi barbara,
I have not experience that problem with my dogs.I hope it's nothing major.
I hope you enjoy cruising this web , it's been a great experience for me and so many great people with lots of humor and knowledge.
We have the daylight saving's time, too. The good thing is that I won't be as concerned walking in the dark once the Shepherd pup grows up (the Corgis just don't look all that imposing!) Personally, I don't care about the dark. What bothers me is the cold.
Welcome Barbara, glad to hear you enjoy this site. I have heard of Pannus and from what I heard, it is an inherited problem. I believe it is an auto-immune problem, causing the body to attack the cornea of the eye. If left untreated, the dog will eventually go blind. I am not a vet and don't play one on television either! But if it is treated, the outcome is fantastic. I will try to post a link about this disease.
Hello Heather thanks for replying to my letter. It was interesting to hear your reply on Pannus. Yes I rather think Sophie will go blind its hard to take in I know. It is rather sad because she is still only 6 but with a fair wind she may go on ok for years lets hope so.
Have you Shepherds how many male or female where do you live in America? Hope you do not mind me asking all these questions nice to talk to someone in another country to hear thier views.
My husband is going to the USA in April (Nevada and the sigts of the national parks) I cannot come with him do not like putting the dogs in Kennels but thats Ok I am going to Thailand in February. We are both retired so we see each other 52 weeks a year so 4 weeks will make no difference. Hope you reply
my very best wishes

Thanks for repling Angelique, I think Sophie does have a problem and I do not think there is a cure.
I currently live in Denver, Colorado. I really enjoy speaking with people in other countries about stuff. It gives me a world-wide perspective! I have yet to visit England, but my Mother has visited in the past. Someday I want to go to Thailand to go scuba diving. It is a very beautiful country! Have a great vacation! Here is a link I found on Pannus.
