QUOTING Ed Frawley:
Chad Jackson asked about the BOX TRAINING on the web site. There is no difference between table training and what these people in the video are doing with dogs. Its junk yard training. END QUOTE
Forgive my ignorance here, but what's shown on the Eurosport video looks different than other "box training" examples I've seen. The ones I typically associate with box training are small tight spaces, actual boxes. This one in the video didn't look like typical box training. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.
I looked at what the videos show.
They are stimulating prey drive not self-defense, survival, flight or fight behaviors. Not exactly sure what they are working towards here but its not cruel at all, the dogs are high in prey during the training and if they slip into self-defense the decoy isn't letting them stay there.
With the emphasis soo big on grips these days we see lots of techniques developed to produce a very choreographed gripping of the sleeve, virtually the exact same location every single time (pain in the butt for those of us that then buy these dogs and have to convert them from sort work to police work). It is possible this is their way of teaching the vey repetitive full grip? and teaching the dog to stay in prey under some stress so the grips remain full and calm.
the purpose of the box training utilized by mike and eurosport is to develop a firm full bite. if the dog wants to keep his footing he must take a full bite and hang on.
