Hi,
I've decided to use the Dremel tool for nail care. My rescue dog will allow me to clip, but she really is not too keen on the clippers. I received my dremel...and after a few days to introduce her to the concept of grinding vs. clipping she has allowed me to use the tool on her nails!! I figured if this gets the job done will less "angst" on her part, I will hopefully get them back/shorter than they are now.
I'm wondering though, how quickly it works?? I understand that you should not allow it to be one the nail for longer than a few seconds, as it can get hot. I guess I thought it would grind the nail back faster than it appears to at this point.
I'm in no rush...but wondering if anyone has any experience using this tool to keep their dog's nail tidy!!
Best thing ever. I much prefer grinding it down in smaller increments...especially with a black nail. Plus if you do hit the quick, the opening will be less intrusive and more ragged and thus clot a bit quicker.
Trade off is, it takes a while longer. I personally think it's worth it if it means getting the nail appreciably shorter and being able to do it less often.
Great!
OK, so it will take a bit longer, obviously, I just had no frame of reference as to how quickly or not the grinding process took (per nail)
It does seem that the trade of will be worth it. She seemed pretty much unfazed by the grinder touching her nails!! I was pleasantly surprised!!
What model of dremel should one look for? I've seen a specific one for doing dog's nails but can't seem to find a local supplier. Would any battery powered one do?
As an experienced esthetician who does nails with basically same tool all I can say is don't hold and press down on the same spot with the tool for too long it will cause too much friction and he will feel alot of burning also if you can regulate the speed of the tool, if it's too fast it will burn or too slow too much vibration. Remember the harder you press and stay in the same spot the more it will burn and believe me it hurts!!
Do you know off hand if the sandpaper barrels are interchangeable between the different brand of grinders? You know like a drill bit? I just want to make sure that I can service it after the sale.
