I'm bringing home a rhodesian ridgeback puppy (yay, I'm excited!) in April. I decided to wait until I'm finished classes/exams so I'm not distracted with important things when the puppy gets here.
The thing is, when the puppy comes home with me, he'll already be 12 weeks old. I've never brought a puppy home that late, so I'm a little worried. Maybe I'm just being silly, but will it affect the puppy's bond with me? My biggest concern was really socialization, but I spoke with the breeder and she's assured me she'll make sure the puppy is encountering all sorts of new things. If she doesn't do as good of a job as she promised, will my puppy be badly affected? I'm also going to visit once or twice on the weekends before it comes home with me.
Anyway, maybe I'm just paranoid, but I wanted some extra opinions.
Here are some links to start and if you use the search function on this boards you will come up with tons of threads on this subject.
Good Luck and Congrats

You're not being silly, but there should be a no problem, IMHO -- When you speak with the breeder, I'd try to make sure your pup will be learning to live in the house with humans or at least in a kennel by itself, rather than being left to run with its littermates or any other dogs after 8 weeks of age (that's what I'd do anyway) in addition to getting all sorts of social exposure after the first batch of shots <:-)
Thanks guys, I feel much better. I'll check into those links right away, and I'm definitely going to find out what kind of life my puppy will be living at the breeder's while I'm busy studying for exams (sigh!). In addition to the exams I'm also moving, and I just thought...Exams + Moving + Puppy = Chaos. The breeder was great about it though, perfectly willing to hold onto my puppy so the timing is right.
I'm so so so excited! I'll make sure to post pictures as soon as humanly possible! I've decided to name him Jenga, which everyone I speak to laughs at me for, but hey, I like it! I'll be doing obedience with him, and anything else I can get into (I really would like to try tracking).
